Abadie - Soldatenbilderbogen XA

 Hello,

Today I'm showing you another Abadie printed sheet.

I already mentioned with issue X that there are two (actually three) very similar versions. This is number XA, in which only one of the four dragoons of the Austrian Federal Army has been replaced by an officer.

The figures are in the Abadie standard scale of 6 cm. These promotional items were produced shortly before Austria's annexation to Germany in 1938.

Best regards,

Andreas

Austrian Infantry - Marcel Vagné (son) No.1415

 Hello,

Today I'm showing you a few individual figures that I've finally been able to identify.

I keep finding cut-out, crumpled, or otherwise damaged or trimmed partial sheets or individual figures. I like to try to "rescue" them, refurbish or restore them, and give them a second life. These four soldiers were just such examples. Unfortunately, I couldn't identify them for a long time. I briefly thought they might be Austrians, but the olive-green / yellowish color of the uniforms led me down the wrong path. Finally, I found a picture of such an uncut sheet yesterday! It's number 1415 by Marcel Vagné (the son, not the father) and is actually supposed to depict Austrian infantry from World War I. The figure size corresponds to approximately 7.5 to 8 cm.

Best regards,

Andreas

Abadie - Soldatenbilderbogen IX

 Hello,

Today I'm showing you another Abadie printed sheet. It's part of the Austrian Armed Forces pre-1938 series and features soldiers from three different branches of the military. First, a field gun of the artillery (red collar insignia), then two Jäger (light infantry, green collar insignia), and finally, a heavy machine gun firing from the infantry (light blue collar insignia). The sheet bears the Roman numeral 9, and the figures are 6 cm tall.

Best regards,

Andreas

Abadie - Soldatenbilderbogen Infanterie

 Hello,

Today I'm showing you two more soldier picture sheets (Soldatenbilderbögen) that were used as advertising material by the Austrian cigarette paper manufacturer Abadie. This one also shows soldiers of the Austrian Federal Army in pre-1938 uniforms. Many of these Abadie sheets were printed both with and without numbering. However, I've never seen numbered sheets of the variants I'm showing today. The two sheets are almost identical and both have the "Infanterie" (infantry) imprint. The only difference is that one shows only marching soldiers, while the other has two figures replaced by an officer and a drummer. The figure size is 6 cm, as usual with Abadie.

Best regards,

Andreas

Abadie - Soldatenbilderbogen IV

Hello,

Today I'm showing you another Abadie printed sheet. This time it's number IV of the "Soldiers' Picture Sheets" and is interesting because it's the only double sheet I've seen of it so far. In addition to a few marching soldiers, it also shows the team with horses und carriage for a field howitzer and a packhorse with a packed machine gun. The soldiers are wearing the uniforms of the Austrian Federal Army before 1938 and are in the Abadie standard figure size of 6 cm.

Best regards,

Andreas

Deutschmeister-Kapelle, J.S.J.W. 117/2

Deutschmeister-Kapelle, J.S.J.W. 117/2

Hello,

Today I would like to show you a new sheet of paper soldiers that I just got yesterday.

It is an Austrian band, the so-called "Deutschmeister Band".

The "Hoch- und Deutschmeister" were an infantry regiment (No. 4) of the Austro-Hungarian Army until 1918, but the band continued to exist after that and still exists today. They still wear this traditional uniform today. That makes it difficult for me to determine whether the soldiers up to 1918 or the later marching band are really being depicted here. The sheet has the number 117/2 and the abbreviation "J.S.J.W." for "Josef Schneider Junior Wien" (Vienna). The figure size is 9cm.

Best wishes,

Andreas

Abadie - Soldatenbilderbogen X

Abadie - Soldatenbilderbogen X

Hello, today I would like to show you another "Soldatenbilderbogen" from Abadie. This time it is number "X" and it shows four dragoons from the Austrian Federal Army (Österreichisches Bundesheer).

This sheet is also available with the number "XA" printed on it. On this one, one of the soldiers was replaced by an officer in the same pose. There is also a sheet without a number and the print: "Österr. Kavallerie im Angriff" (Austrian Cavalry in Attack) on this one, the pose of the rider is almost identical, but the horse has a different posture and is not seen in side view but in quarter view from the front.
Österreichischer Dragoner (Austrian Dragoon), original figure size is 6cm (rider)

If anyone reading this has Abadie sheets and would like to give them away or at least show them, I would be very happy to hear from you.
Best wishes,
Andreas

Abadie - Soldatenbilderbogen I

Abadie - Soldatenbilderbogen I

Hello,

Today I would like to show you a printed sheet with paper soldiers. It was produced on behalf of the Austrian company Abadie. This company was primarily known for its cigarette paper, but also produced paper napkins, among other things. In addition to many other promotional items, this company also gave away paper figures as an extra when certain quantities of their goods were purchased.

I know of three series with different themes of paper figures so far. Firstly, soldiers of the Austrian Federal Army (Österreichisches Bundesheer) up to 1938. Secondly, Italian and Ethiopian figures from the Abyssinian War, and thirdly, a series with Wild West figures. In addition to these single-sided printed sheets, there were also a whole series of individual figures with the front and back printed. Unfortunately, I do not know who drew the figures or which publisher printed the sheets. On all the surviving sheets that I know of, only the company name "Abadie" is printed.

Here I am showing the "Soldaten Bilderbogen I" with soldiers of the Austrian Federal Army marching in a slightly angled view. The sheet contains an officer, a flag bearer, a drummer, a trumpeter and ten marching soldiers.

The figure size is 6cm.

Best regards,

Andreas
