Today I am showing you another advertising print—roughly A4 in size—this time for coffee products from the Kruse company.
The manufacturer (Oehmigke & Riemschneider) has also left their mark on this piece, something that unfortunately happens only very rarely. Depicted are 18 small German colonial soldiers wearing the grey home-service uniform with the light-blue insignia for German South-West Africa. This uniform was introduced in 1896/97 and worn until 1915, when the colony surrendered.

Today I’m showing you a promotional sheet from the Zentraltheater Vienna, roughly A5 in size. It depicts Prussian infantrymen marching in groups. Unfortunately, the print bears no indication of who produced it; several Austrian or German publishers are likely candidates.

Unfortunately, I’ve been very busy lately, which is why there hasn’t been an update for nearly a month. I promise to do better.
In any case, today I’m showing you a few more Abadie figures. Since the (Abadie) "catalog" is my way of organizing and displaying the well-known sheets, all that remains are the individual (Abadie) figures. Unfortunately, I have no background information on them. I can only say that there were a great many of these figures and that they were likely included—either singly or in groups of two or three—with specific packs of cigarette paper.
The German figures shown here all depict Wehrmacht personnel from 1935 or 1936. I am not entirely certain about the artillery group, however. The extensive red piping on the uniforms was really a feature of World War I-era uniforms. Did the artist simply want more contrast, or are there different series of German figures?

Today, I’m sharing another magazine insert from "Soldats Napoléoniens" featuring hand-painted figures from the Wurtz-Pées collection. This time, the six pages cover Bavarian infantry. As beautiful as these figures are to look at—and as impressive as this family collection of paper figures is—these Bavarian examples clearly demonstrate that they are unsuitable for drawing historical conclusions about Napoleonic-era uniforms. I consider myself a hobbyist uniform researcher, and Bavarian uniforms are a particular passion of mine (being Bavarian myself). Unfortunately, a glance at these figures reveals many painted details that bear little resemblance to the reality of the period depicted. For instance, Bavarian non-commissioned officers did not wear French-style sleeve rank insignia; regimental musicians wore long coats and hats; and officers never wore gorgets and sashes simultaneously... Some of the reverse sides are interesting, too. The cardboard backing used here sometimes bears the date 1856! This suggests that these figures originated in the final phase of the collection's creation, whereas the production period is usually cited as 1825 to 1850.

A few weeks ago, I managed to find this lovely sheet by Oehmigke & Riemschneider at a small online antiquarian shop.
Based on the number 9703, it can be dated to 1896 (or the 1895–97 timeframe). The sheet is stencil-colored and depicts the Imperial German Navy—specifically sailors, soldiers of the See-Battalion, and naval artillerymen—in combat poses.

Today I’m showing you Czechoslovak soldiers in pre-1938 uniforms.
The figures come from a leaflet published in 1992. Unfortunately, the cover of my copy is quite faded. The figures themselves are on two pages in the center. The back features an explanation of the history and insignia colors of the Czechoslovak army. Interspersed among the figures—alongside the bases—there is also a sort of puzzle. The figures are about 10 cm tall.

The image itself is somewhat exotic, depicting the Indian Army Guard. And, befitting the magnificent style of the uniforms, no expense was spared with the gold ink. This sheet—numbered 2—was printed sometime between 1892 and 1903 by Alfred Delhalt.

Today I would like to present some new research findings.
I am currently working on, among other things, a catalog of the printed sheets produced by Joseph (Josef) Scholz of Mainz. While doing so, I came across an interesting order list in the holdings of the Mainz City Library.
Since it will likely be quite some time before I publish the complete catalog, I would like to offer a brief glimpse into the "Wehrmacht Series" here.
In his book *Paper Empires*, Rafael de Francisco López published a list of Scholz sheets from the Wehrmacht series that did not align with the information I had gathered on the subject.
Here is the list from *Paper Empires*:
No. 37 – Deutsche Reichsmarine
No. 40 – Feuernde Artillerie
No. 42 – Vorbeimarsch einer Traditionsfahnenkompanie
No. 43 – Vorbeimarsch einer Infanterie-Kompanie
No. 44 – Auf dem Exerzierplatz
No. 45 – Rekrutenvereidigung
No. 46 – Panzerwagen
No. 47 – Motorisierte Aufklärungsabteilung
No. 48 – Flak-Artillerie (Geschütz in Feuerstellung)
I had previously noticed that some of these sheets also exist with different titles—sometimes featuring identical figures in different arrangements, yet bearing the same numbers from this list!
The discovered order lists confirm that Scholz apparently reused some of the numbers repeatedly.
Since these lists also indicate which numbers and designations were newly introduced to the product range in 1939 and 1940, I would like to present them here in their original form.
The 1939 list shows five sheets as new issues; three of them (Nos. 38, 44, and 45) presumably bear numbers that had already been assigned previously.
The 1940s list brings us three more new items. These sheets, too, were not filed after the existing No. 50, but rather before the sheets already listed. This means that these three numbers (Nos. 35 to 37) had also been existed previously.
The 1941 list shows the sheets from the previous year, without any additions. I assume that no new plates were published after that point.
Unfortunately, these lists remain silent on who drew these figures.
But who wouldn't like to order 100 of these plates for 9 Reichsmarks today? 😁
