In the 1970s and 80s, paper soldiers experienced a renaissance in Spain. No longer as toys, but as historically accurate collector's series.

One of these series was created by José Maria Bueno starting in 1979. His goal was to recreate the various troops of the 1939 victory parade (after the Spanish Civil War). The plan was for 48 plates, printed by Barreira Militaria in Madrid. Each eight plates were contained in a small folder with accompanying text. Unfortunately, Bueno passed away before the project could be completed. Nevertheless, five folders (a total of 40 plates) were published.

Today I will show you plate number 1, featuring Spanish infantry.
